Meade wedge for 8 inch LX200
The Meade wedge for 8 inch LX200 eliminates field-rotation effects when you are using your 8" LX200 telescope for astrophotography. Astrophotography is possible with the LX200 scopes in the standard altazimuth mode. In long-exposure photography, however, an effect called field rotation occurs. Stars on the edge of the field will appear as small concentric arcs or streaks on the film instead of star points. This effect, which is not related to the accuracy of the telescope's computer or internal alignment, occurs with all altazimuth-mounted telescopes. It's simply a side effect of the altazimuth mount type itself which can be countered by the Meade wedge.

Preventing Field Rotation
To prevent field rotation you can align your LX200 to the poles by using a wedge. An alternative to using a wedge is a field de-rotator. The de-rotator allows you to continue in altazimuth mode while correcting for field rotation with longer-exposure astrophotography and CCD imaging. The de-rotator is also available with us

What is this Meade wedge suitable for?
This Meade wedge is suitable for the Meade LX200 8 inch version. For the 10" and larger versions, we recommend the use of the Ultra Wedge.
