Meade 8-24mm zoom eyepiece
The Meade 8-24mm zoom eyepiece is part of the famous 4000 series. It has seven elements and multi-coated optics. These eyepieces are the gold standard in telescope eyepieces.
Very wide field of view across the entire spectrum
The magnification range of the Meade 8-24mm zoom eyepiece in combination with an ETX-125 telescope is 79x to 238x. This is only an example: the Meade zoom eyepiece works with many telescopes, whether it's an 60mm refractor or a LX200 Schmidt Cassegrain! At the same time, it offers the widest field of view possible - 55 degrees at 8mm with a sharp edge-of-field and long eye relief. It also produces extremely low astigmatism, spherical aberration and off-axis colour. It uses seven-layer multi-coated optics and black edges for maximum image contrast. It provides an optical performance that is normally impossible to achieve through eyepieces with few elements.

The Meade 8-24mm zoom eyepiece gives you (almost) a full set of Meade eyepieces at roughly half the price you would expect to pay.
The 8-24mm range works well on all scopes and means you don't have to keep swapping oculars in order to view your target at different sizes.
How many times have you struggled to find the subject again once you've swapped eyepieces (either because the lens needs refocussing or the object is no longer in the centre of a higher magnification eyepiece ?)
With the Meade zoom eyepiece you can watch as the object gets larger in the ocular, whilst adjusting framing and focussing as required.
It's especially useful if several people are sharing the same scope and want to view an object at different levels of magnification.
The 7 elements in the eyepiece are multicoated for maximum light transmission and image contrast, whilst minimising internal reflections, and the ocular is threaded to accept filters.
Focal length sizes are clearly marked around the edge of the eyepiece (including marked sizes of 8, 12, 16, 20, and 24mm with the remaining spaces indicated by 1mm index marks - something sadly lacking on all other zoom eyepieces).
The ocular includes a foldable rubber eye cup which means eye relief is extremely comfortable, even if wearing spectacles.
The eyepiece has an impressive field of view, going from 40 degrees at 24mm to 55 degrees at 8mm, affording a comfortable view of the night sky at all sizes.
On the downside, the folding eyecup and the zoom movement on the sample supplied were a little stiff (but may loosen with time) and the lens does suffer from a little kidney beaning (you can loose the image altogether if you put your eye too close, but this can be rectified by raising your eye away from the lens slightly and then back down to find the 'sweet spot').
Whether you are looking for a single eyepiece to take with a portable scope or just want to use the zoom as a reference for which fixed focal length ocular you should be using on a target, then the Meade 8-24mm zoome eyepiece is a real contender.
Highly recommended.
