Celestron Ultima LX
Celestron's Ultima LX series consists of six eyepieces which can be used for high-quality observations. The eyepieces have a wide field of view with a 70 degree angle. The following applies to the eyepieces in this series: the shorter the focal length, the higher the magnification, the longer the focal length, the lower the magnification, but the sharper the image. These Celestron eyepieces are suitable for 1.25 inch and 2 inch eyepiece fittings. The 22mm and the 32mm model, however, are only suitable for 2 inch eyepiece fittings.

Coating
The eyepiece lenses feature Celestron's multi-layer coating. This coating counters unnecessary reflections and makes sure the light is better focused.

Question: billy, 29 March 2012 Are the ultima series good 4 both dpo,s amd planetary viewing and what would be the best magnification to get 4 both if could only by 1 Answer: Yes you can use the Ultima LX both for dpo's as well as planetary viewing. Magnification depends on the focal distance of your telescope. If you want to know the magnification of an eyepiece you have to devide the focal distance of your telescope by the focal distance of the eyepiece. If your telescope has a focal distance of let's say 1000mm and you would buy the 5mm Ultima LX you would get a magnification of 1000/5 = 200x.

High magnifications (or eyepieces with short focal distances) are mostly used when you want to focus on a detail of a planet (e.g. a moon crater). If you want to use the eyepiece for multiple purposes we would recommend the 13 or 17mm Ultima LX
